Second Life in education: good video introduction

The New Media Consortium has produced this 5 minute video describing the educational possibilities emerging in 3-D virtual environments.




In 5 years, we'll probably think of this video (or even SL) as something akin to "gopher" technology or the "Mosaic" browser; still, it's good to look up from where we are now once in a while and squint at the horizon!

SL Library Presentation

Those of you who want to know more about what the SL Library is and what avatars like Cordelia Moy might (one day?) be doing there should have a look at this presentation. Lori Bell (Lorelei Junot in SL) is the brain behind the SL Library and she was one of the presenters on the topic at the Internet Librarian 2006 conference.

The Pew Internet and American Life project has released an interesting report called Bloggers: A portrait of the Internet's new storytellers.

The Second Life Library was rather roundly criticized in a blog posting last week. The author raises some very good questions about the project; Second Life librarians respond at the end of the piece.
