Book Review Index and Book Review Digest

We sent Book Review Digest and Book Review Index to the Cage and then, as luck would have it, a professor seeking reviews of Joan Didion's Slouching Towards Bethlehem (1968) came in to consult with me the other day.

When patrons come looking for these publications, they're told (via HOLLIS) that the volumes are in "storage" and are directed to request them at the circ desk.

We, of course, can bypass the storage copy request form and retrieve the items ourselves.

But perhaps we should keep track of when we do so over the next year -- in case there's more use than we thought and thus more need to have one or both of these titles readier to hand than they are right now.

As Sue said, there's nothing like putting a set in storage to create demand for it. Just now, for the first time in two years, I retrieved an old volume of the Book Review Digest for a student who came in looking for reviews of a book published in 1938. Actually, she was doing the search for a professor, who had given her a list of journals which had reviewed the book. He advised her to use the Reader's Guide to locate the exact citations, but that proved fruitless -- it was the Book Review Digest that listed them.
