British Law

In addition to the print volumes of Statutes at Large (Br Doc 9000.210 - .250), researchers looking for English laws can consult The Statutes of the Realm. The 11-volume set, compiled between 1810 and 1828, contains the texts of laws passed from Magna Carta (1215) through the end of Queen Anne's reign (1713). The printed set is available at Widener, but you can find a digital version in The Making of the Modern World, a database of primary texts in economic history.

Citations of English laws by monarch seem to follow this convention: 39 Eliz. c. 3, where "39" refers to the specific year of a monarch's reign (Elizabeth's 39th year as queen).
