NEW LAMONT LOST & FOUND POLICY

Lamont Library Lost & Found Policy

All items found in Lamont Library are now turned over to the door guards who will contact the Widener Mass Ave Door Security Desk.

THIS MEANS GIVE IT TO THE DOOR GUARD. NOT TO CIRCULATION DESK.

Items are brought to Widener to be tagged, inventoried, and stored in a secure location for six months. At the end of six months, unclaimed items are donated to the Phillips Brooks House.

Valuable items such as cash, jewelry, wallets, purses, laptops, credit cards and cameras, are immediately turned over to the Harvard University Police Department.

THIS MEANS THAT LAPTOPS, ETC. TURNED INTO THE DOOR GUARD WILL BE PICKED UP BY A HUPD OFFICER DISPATCHED TO LAMONT ASAP.

Harvard University IDs are turned over to the Harvard University ID Office, the next business day.

THIS MEANS GIVE HARVARD IDs TO ACCESS SERVICES STAFF, WHO WILL NOTIFY PATRON BY E-MAIL.

Patrons and staff should make inquiries about lost items including books, to the guards at the Widener Mass. Ave. Door Security Desk (617-495-2408). The guards will make arrangements to help retrieve lost items.

READ BELOW CAREFULLY AS THIS PERTAINS TO CAMPING AND "ABANDONED" STUDENT WORK SITES:

Exceptions:

- Books only should be turned in to the Access Services Office. Access Staff will review these items for ownership markings and route to the owning library. Books that have no ownership markings receive a Lost & Found flag and are sent to the Widener Return Desk via the grey bins. Once vetted in Widener, the books are then turned over to HCL Operations for storage. Books that are accompanied by notebooks, papers, and other signs of student work should be reviewed for ownership and bagged. If the owner can be contacted they can be held in Access Services for 48 - hours, at which point they should then be turned in at the Widener Mass Ave entrance.
- Materials picked up for ‘camping violations’ follow the same procedures as other collections of student’s work.
